BaseRace Stat Explainer
What Are BaseRace Points (BRP)?
BaseRace Points = Total bases a player advances, regardless of how they got there.
BaseRace Points (BRP) measure how many bases a player advances during a game.
Unlike Total Bases, which only tracks bases earned from hits, BaseRace Points track every base a player gains around the diamond.
Whether a player reaches base with a hit, a walk, or advances because of another play, every base counts.
Comparison
BaseRace Points vs. Total Bases
Both stats track offensive production, but they measure different things.
| Play | Total Bases | BaseRace Points |
|---|---|---|
| Single | 1 | 1 |
| Double | 2 | 2 |
| Triple | 3 | 3 |
| Home Run | 4 | 4 |
| Walk | 0 | 1 |
| Hit By Pitch | 0 | 1 |
| Stolen Base | 0 | 1 |
| Advance on Wild Pitch | 0 | 1 |
| Advance on Error | 0 | 1 |
| Advance on Teammate's Hit | 0 | 1 |
| Score on a Sacrifice Fly | 0 | 1 |
Example
A Full Trip Around the Bases
A player:
- Walks
- Steals second base
- Advances to third on a groundout
- Scores on a sacrifice fly
Even without recording a hit, that player advanced around the entire diamond and helped create a run.
Why It Matters
Total Offensive Advancement
BaseRace Points measure total offensive advancement.
A player can earn points by:
- Getting hits
- Drawing walks
- Getting hit by pitches
- Stealing bases
- Taking extra bases
- Advancing around the bases
- Scoring runs
This creates a simple stat that rewards everything a player does to move around the diamond and help create runs.

How It Works
Every Base Advanced Is Worth 1 Point
Every base advanced is worth 1 point.
- Single = 1 point
- Double = 2 points
- Triple = 3 points
- Home Run = 4 points

- Advancement on errors, fielder's choices, wild pitches, passed balls, and teammates' plays = 1 point for each base gained
Every Base Matters
A Better Way to See Offensive Value
Traditional stats often overlook important parts of a player's offensive contribution.
A player with a lower batting average can still create tremendous value by getting on base, stealing bases, and consistently advancing into scoring position.
BaseRace Points provide a simple way to measure how much a player advances around the diamond because every base matters.
